Julie Allen Barbour
Masters of Science in Nursing education, Registered Nurse, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Certified Infant Massage Instructor, Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor
My ideal client is anywhere from simple to complex in needs for feeding support needs. With a holistic, evidence-based approach of whole mother and whole baby. I support families prenatally, through the full spectrum of infant feeding and postpartum care, from straightforward breastfeeding support to the most complex feeding journeys. An in-depth background in maternal-newborn nursing, NICU, and perinatal support, I have a special passion for helping families navigate challenges that can feel overwhelming, isolating, or medically complex.
My work includes supporting premature and NICU infants, oral feeding difficulties, poor weight gain, latch and milk supply concerns, pumping and bottle-feeding challenges, maternal postpartum recovery, breast inflammation spectrum, infant massage teachings and providing compassionate support through the emotional challenges that can accompany pregnancy, birth, feeding difficulties, and the transition into parenthood. I believe deeply in a care perspective of the whole family and creating a safe, supportive space where parents feel heard, validated, and connected to appropriate resources when needed. I strive to meet each family exactly where they are, offering individualized, evidence-based care, emotional support, and practical solutions that help both baby and parent feel safe, seen, and empowered.
What it is like working with me:
Lactation is not just the work I do; I am deeply passionate about helping support, educate and guide mothers, babies and families on the profoundly meaningful journey of feeding babies! About Me:
I knew my calling to mother child services as a young mother myself. Experiencing pregnancy, birth, postpartum, a deep knowing I wanted and would try to breastfeed my baby as long as I could and she desired. It was not alway easy, with limited lactation resources. I felt a deep and profound importance of the journey, a knowing this was the work I needed to be apart of in my life. There has always been a strong pull to help mothers who struggle, my own mother was only able to breast feed me for a couple of weeks due to extreme stress at the time, and limited resources in supporting her navigating challenges in the early postpartum period. This story explains a lot about me and my why.
I have lived in Oregon since 1978, a Bend High graduate and a Registered Nurse since 1994. I am married to a wonderful man, we have an amazing daughter, son in law, and four beautiful grand boys. We also have four special pups, three of which are rescues, lots of love and fur babies in the house.
You will find me in leisure time on the hiking trails, biking, yoga, enjoying food carts, and volunteering at Varekai Ranch horse rescue and sanctuary.
